Shemar Freire, of Union City, New Jersey, was stopped by police at around 10:30 p.m. Monday night, Dec. 5, as he drove in Inwood, near Sheridan and Doughty boulevards, Nassau County Police said.

Officers reportedly pulled him over due to his excessively dark window tint.

During the subsequent investigation, police said they found a loaded semi-automatic ghost gun inside the vehicle, along with marijuana.

Ghost guns are typically assembled at home from kits and lack serial numbers, making them untraceable. They have been illegal in New York since April 2022.

Freire was arrested without incident on several charges of criminal possession of a weapon, along with unlawful possession of cannabis and vehicle and traffic law violations.

He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, Dec. 6, at First District Court in Hempstead.
